Guys, the header is true...after all the waiting, all the impatience, all the Sleepless nights (see what I did there?), These Things have finally Happened. Yes, at long last, G-Eazy's latest album is out, and my goodness, was it worth the wait.
Now, I know that many fans of G-Eazy's older music (Big, The Endless Summer, Must Be Nice) were understandably concerned when the new stuff started rolling out..."Been On," "Far Alone," and "Lotta That" are essentially worlds away from the classic 50s songs of G-Eazy's that we've come to love, and the concern I heard the most was that G-Eazy was losing his touch, moving in a direction that made him less and less unique and more like his rapping counterparts. Obviously, G-Eazy's uniqueness is what makes him so strong as an artist and what makes him stand out among the myriad of artists who believe they have "it." That being said, what's more unique than a James Dean-esque rapper who can spit over a 50s melody and a trap beat? Exactly. Anyone who's complained about G-Eazy's new direction is just scared of embracing change. Honestly, his music has changed, but only slightly, and, in my opinion, only in positive ways.
So, let's dissect These Things Happen, shall we? To begin with, let me say that this 16 track album is heaven. For realsies, y'all. Here's the breakdown:

So, let's dissect These Things Happen, shall we? To begin with, let me say that this 16 track album is heaven. For realsies, y'all. Here's the breakdown:
- Lyrically, Mr. Eazy is at his very finest with this album. In every song, there's a witty pun, a throwback reference to some of his older hits, and/or just a rhyme that makes your head spin with its flawless delivery.
- Content-wise, to be honest, G sounds a lot more lovesick than he has in the past...don't get me wrong, the tracks about getting bitches and money are still very much present, but there's definitely a romantic undertone to this album that makes me question whether or not he's replaced me with someone else...? Hmmm. Guess I'll have to have a little talk with him about that one.
- There are a couple of tracks that, to be honest, underwhelm me (and I am actually feeling pained writing that-- I adore this rapper that freaking much), but I can say with complete confidence that there are none I don't actually like. Every track on this album is uniquely its own, but each has that specific G sound that we all love.
So...the verdict on this album? Well, I personally love it. Seriously. And I could really go on and on about this album and why it's so amazing and why I love G-Eazy so much, but you know what, y'all? You should just listen for yourself and find out.
